New Metal Review: Last Scattering - Eidolon

The Heavy Metal Sasquatch is always hungry for delicious prog metal and the gentlemen from Last Scattering have graciously obliged with the early release of their debut album Eidolon! Hailing from the depths of Hamilton, Canada, Last Scattering has exploded into the southern Ontario metal scene throughout the last year, playing a magnitude of shows as well as headlining some huge ones such as this years Chaos Fest as well as a show with the metal gods of Cryptopsy! The band is building momentum and shows no sign of slowing down with preparations already made for a summer tour across Southern Ontario and Quebec. Last Scattering is one of few progressive metal bands hailing from the Hammer but they are sure to put the city as well as themselves on the progressive metal map!

Last Scattering represents a very unique progressive metal experience. The first few songs off the album proves this with a very obtuse and quirky feel to the songs being felt. This being said, Last Scattering is quick to inspire your head to bang with their use of heavy technical guitar and drumming through out the entire album. Last Scattering is brilliant all across this album showcasing their talents with absolutely killer riffs and wonderfully constructed verses and solos. While there was a few times I felt that the clean vocals were a bit strange they were always very interesting and unique, especially when paired with the albums completely devastating solid scream vocals. Last Scattering utilizes a wide variety of musical styles, infusing a heavy groove with aspects of death and thrash metal creating an onslaught of progressive metal mastery.

I enjoyed this album on almost every level. While I was listening to the album, my mind was painting a picture of a particular colony of black birds and their brutal colonel GibGib who is leading them on their hell bent journey for mystical meals and the assassination of a particular Screen Actor Guild member. I can only thank the band for that which can be attributed to the their wickedly unique song composition and perfectly flowing structure as well as its accompanying art work. My favourite song off the album is hard to decide but it's most likely a tie between GibGib and the 18 minute epic Matt Damon. You can decide for yourself below with the entire album available for streaming. Make sure to check out the band on facebook @ www.facebook.com/LastScattering as well as download the album @ http://lastscattering.bandcamp.com/releases /,,/

- No doubt about it, Eidolon belongs on your music shelf right beside your Between the Buried and Me & Protest the Hero CD's. Last Scattering has successfully created a unique and eccentrically heavy piece of progressive metal history, one that the Sasquatch will surely not forget.

The Ecliptolon Tour ft. Last Scattering & The Parallax!

Early last week the Heavy Metal Sasquatch was elated to hear that two of his favourite emerging local progressive metral bands have launched a Southern Ontario and Quebec based debut tour! This tour excites the Yeti as it showcases two of the best up and coming bands in Canadian Progressive metal. Despite the fact that both bands are relatively new to the scene, with The Parallax releasing their debut full length album "Obliquity of the Ecliptic" in October of last year and Last Scattering set to release their debut album "Eidolon" this August, the ECLIPTOLON tour is sure to impress. While both of these bands are unique in their own respect, they both carry a heavy onslaught of intensity fused with an impressive arsenal of unique technical progressive metal. You can catch The Parallax and Last Scattering at the following show dates! I'll be seeing you all in the pit at the Toronto and Hamilton shows! /,,/

New Metal Review: Unscathed - In Command

The local metal underground surrounding the Heavy Metal Sasquatch is full of delicious metal to browse on. And now finally one of the Yeti's all time favourite underground bands, Unscathed,  has released their first mastered song off their soon to be released 5 track EP. Unscathed makes their debut with a track entitled In Command, which sets forth a furiously paced combination of thrash metal full of technical progressive brilliance. This song does not let up for an instance, constantly delivering non-stop eruptions of galloping shreddtastic guitars, full throtle drumming, and aggressive hard hitting vocals. I absolutely love the speed and ferocity of this track. Unscathed is redefining the thrash metal genre, blending old school influences of Iron Maiden & Testament with new age technicality and ferocity of death and progressive metal. Listen to "In Command" as well as recieve as free download below! Keep and eye out for the full EP once it is released. And as always, make sure to support the band on facebook @ www.facebook.com/weareunscathed /,,/

- Unscathed is an entirely independent band, doing all of the writing, recording, producing, and mastering completely themselves. It is for this reason that I believe the band should be extremely proud of themselves for turning out such outstanding end product. In Command by Unscathed never lets up, inciting a riot like state on the Yeti upon every listening. I am very eager to here what else Unscathed has in store with their debut!

New Metal Review: Deathpoint - Between the Lines (Official Video)

Deathpoint has been on the Yeti's radar for some time now, with their 2013 release "Sinister" receiving a lot of attention in my playlist rotation. Because of this I am very excited to present to you the official music video for the song "Between the Lines", off their aforementioned killer album. Deathpoint is groove metal at its finest, featuring technical and hard hitting instrumentals in combination with honed aggressive vocals; perfection for the head-banging enthusiast. The video for Between the Lines is fantastic and enthralling, showcasing a deranged family man at his worst and brilliant HD footage of the band delivering their brutal ballad. On top of this the video has remarkable flow, responding appropriately to its musical counterparts, making it an extremely enjoyable watch. Check the video out below and make sure to support the band @ www.facebook.com/deathpoint.metal and itunes.apple.com/ca/album/sinister \m/

- I enjoyed everything that this video had to offer. The song of choice "Between the Lines" is one of my favourites off the album and was a perfect choice for the video, making for a unique and intriguing watch that keeps you hooked to the end. Furthermore, the HD footage of the band performing was fantastic, showcasing the serious talent behind the reigns of Deathpoint.

Cryptopsy Live @ Club Absinthe, Hamilton - Dec 8, 2013

Last night the Heavy Metal Sasquatch had the honour of witnessing the metal gods of Cryptopsy destroy Hamilton's Club Absinthe as part of their Quebec & Ontario based tour dubbed "The December Massacre"! And they weren't lying, with all bands of the night performing absolutely ruthless crushing sets. Adding to the carnage was Cryptopsy, who played a lengthy brutal and technical set, featuring many songs off the "None So Vile" album as well as some killer songs off their new completely independent self-titled release. Here are some pictures I took through out the night. Cheers to all the crazies I clashed with in the pit! \m/

New Metal Review: Unscathed - Darkened Skies Music Video

In preparation for the upcoming 2013 Southern Ontario Metal Festival, the Hamilton Ontario based four-piece progressive metal machine, Unscathed, have released an updated music video for their song Darkened Skies. The video was shot at the Niagara Metal Fest and features a super up close and abstract view of the band. The video features footage of the band shredding, as well as clips that seem to be associated with internal struggle, as the song name 'Darkened Skies' suggests. Special thanks to Behemoth-X Productions for creating the video. Check out the video and go see them on the opening night of the Southern Ontario Metal Fest, August 23, 2013 @ 8pm at Club Absinthe, Hamilton. - www.SOMF.ca
Also make sure to like the band on facebook if you dig their music! - www.facebook.com/weareunscathed \m/

Progressive Metal Showcase: Imperium - The Trooper (Iron Maiden Live Cover) @ Casbah Lounge, Hamilton

Progressive Metal Showcase - Imperium

A key component of progressive metal is the ability to transcend metal and musical genres. With Imperium's influences coming from all ends of the rock and metal genres, they often pay homage to these bands by playing the occasional cover at live shows. Here is a video of Imperium covering Iron Maiden - The Trooper taken from the Casbah Lounge in Hamitlon, Ontario back in January 2013. I love modern day metal covers of old school metal songs! These guys help kick things up a notch! Check it out!

Intrumental Metal Showase: Intervals

Instrumental Metal Showcase - Intervals

Recently the Heavy Metal Sasquatch was in Toronto to see the always mind blowing Between the Buried and Me. Unknowing to me I was about to be absolutely fucking blown away by the completely instrumental Toronto based metal band Intervals. The amazing part about Intervals is that even with no lyrical words spoken, the guitar easily takes over; practically speaking for itself. Intervals recently released their wicked new EP - In Time. Check out the full EP stream at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyBrxxUWO28 . Intervals is gearing up for a Canadian tour with Structures, Texas in July, & Northlane. Check these guys out!!!! I'll see you at the Kitchener show!!
