Progressive Metal Showcase: Reflections: The Fantasy Effect - EP Stream & Review

Progressive Metal Showcase: Reflections

In his never ending pursuit to find the most furious of all mosh pits, the Heavy Metal Sasquatch has come across the up and coming progressive metal, Reflections. Reflection's first EP "The Fantasy Effect" blew my mind bringing together Grindcore and Thrash Metal to form a phenomenal progressive metal sound! Not only was Reflections responsible for an instantaneous mosh pit in my living room, they were also able to get a good laugh out of me; inserting a perfectly timed Ron Burgandy quote approx 3:20 into the EP. All in all, The Fantasy Effect is a crazy fucking wicked EP, warranting you to stop what you are doing immediately and give it a thorough listen! Have a listen below and tell me what you think.!
Don't forget to check them out on facebook @ www.facebook.com/reflectionsmn .

-I absolutely loved The Fantasy Effect. Check these guys out and definitely give them your support!!

New Metal Review: Periphery - Scarlet (Official Video) Verdict - Must Watch!

I just watched the new music video from the band Periphery for the song Scarlet, and one question comes to mind; Mustard or Ketchup!? All jokes aside I loved this music video for a number of reasons. First of all the song of choice, "Scarlet", is a great choice for a video showcasing the bands technical musical skill as well as creative ability. The video features what seems to be an intergalactic battle between those in extreme favour of mustard and those loyal to ketchup. This video kept me on the edge of my seat featuring an abnormal amount of mustard consumption, while at the same time showcasing an intense battle between the yellows and the reds! This is a wicked video with a fresh take on metal music videos, with the absence of the cliche heavy rain scenes, piles of skulls, old buildings, and black liquid that is usually to be suspected. Check out the video for Scarlet and tell me... Mustard or Ketchup!?

This music video is creative, it rocks, and it's fucking awesome

New Metal Review: DEVICE - Vilify (David Draimen) Verdict - Give it a Listen!

When I first heard about "Device", I was eager to see whether or not David Draimen of Disturbed was capable of bringing something new to the table. With talk of a more Industrial feel to the new band, I was hoping for something different and interesting to listen to. This however is not exactly the case. After listening to the first single from Device, "Vilify", I was confused as to if I had clicked to wrong link to just another Disturbed song. The song did not have any sort of "industrial" feel to it as Draimen had claimed. This all being said, Vilify itself is wicked song, and Device is definitely worth listening too, it just felt like nothing different. If I wanted to listen to Disturbed, I would listen to Disturbed.
Check them out for yourself and tell me what you think

Overall I am not impressed by Device so far. Nothing new has been brought to the table. Here's hoping the next single from Device offers something worth talking about.

Sasquatch's Top 5 Drummers- via Top 25 Modern Metal Drummers @ Metalsucks.net

Spectacular drumming is a key component to heart-skipping soul altering metal. While all drummers in metal bands usually give 110%, there are a few notable drummers that always give 210%. The Heavy Metal Sasquatch (in his never ending pursuit of the moshpit) has set out to determine who is at the top of the drumming elite. This led me to an article featured  @ metalsucks.net showcasing their list of the Top 25 Modern Metal Drummers. While the list is impressive in its comprehensiveness the Heavy Metal Sasquatch has a few alterations of his own to make to the list!

The Top 5 @ MetalSucks.net
from bridgetsawicki.blogspot.ca
1. Scott Hull - Agoraphobic Nosebleed
2. Mario Duplantier - Gojira
3. Danny Walker - Intronaut, Exhumed, Jesu
4. Brann Dailor - Mastadon
5. Tomas Haake - Meshuggah

The Top 5 @ Heavy Metal Sasquatch
1. Blake Richardson - Between the Buried and Me
2. Chris Adler - Lamb of God
3. Navene Koperweis - Animals as Leaders, Animosity
4. Mario Duplantier - Gojira
5. Flo Mounier - Cryptopsy

Defense: Blake Richardson is the best modern metal drummer in my opinion! He skill is undeniable creating masterpieces every time he touches the sticks. Beyond this his technique is mind blowing; after reviewing videos of the drummers in question, it always came back to the Between the Buried and Me drummer. Blake Richardson is hypnotising behind a drum set, and deserves to be #1 among his peers! Don\t believe me?? Check out this video and see for yourself!

It was extremely hard to rank any of these guys above the other. Every single person on the top 25 list deserves to be there! If you haven't already checked these guys out, where the hell have you been! Feel free to challenge my list and post your own alterations in the comments!
-Special thanks to MetalSucks.net for their hard work compiling the list - Check out the full list @ www.metalsucks.net/the-top-25-modern-metal-drummers.

Progressive Metal Showcase: Imperium - The Trooper (Iron Maiden Live Cover) @ Casbah Lounge, Hamilton

Progressive Metal Showcase - Imperium

A key component of progressive metal is the ability to transcend metal and musical genres. With Imperium's influences coming from all ends of the rock and metal genres, they often pay homage to these bands by playing the occasional cover at live shows. Here is a video of Imperium covering Iron Maiden - The Trooper taken from the Casbah Lounge in Hamitlon, Ontario back in January 2013. I love modern day metal covers of old school metal songs! These guys help kick things up a notch! Check it out!

Intrumental Metal Showase: Intervals

Instrumental Metal Showcase - Intervals

Recently the Heavy Metal Sasquatch was in Toronto to see the always mind blowing Between the Buried and Me. Unknowing to me I was about to be absolutely fucking blown away by the completely instrumental Toronto based metal band Intervals. The amazing part about Intervals is that even with no lyrical words spoken, the guitar easily takes over; practically speaking for itself. Intervals recently released their wicked new EP - In Time. Check out the full EP stream at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyBrxxUWO28 . Intervals is gearing up for a Canadian tour with Structures, Texas in July, & Northlane. Check these guys out!!!!
